Ingredients

  • 1 pound of ground beef or pork
  • 1 teaspoon of ginger powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder (adjust to taste)
  • 2 cups of shredded cabbage
  • 2 ounces of shredded carrots
  • 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons of water
  • 1 quart of peanut oil (for frying, or as needed)
  • 8 egg roll wrappers (7 inches square)
  • 2 tablespoons of sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Preparation

  1. Season the Meat: In a large bowl, combine the ground pork or beef with the ginger and garlic powder. Mix thoroughly.
  2. Cook the Meat: Place the seasoned pork in a medium-sized pan over medium heat. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently, until the pork is browned and crumbly.
  3. Mix the Filling: In a large bowl, combine the cooked pork with the shredded cabbage and carrots. Stir until the mixture is well-blended.
  4. Prepare the Paste: In a small bowl, mix the flour and water to form a paste. This will be used to seal the egg rolls.
  5. Heat the Oil: Warm the peanut oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat, or heat it to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Assemble the Egg Rolls: While the oil is heating, prepare the egg rolls:
    • Place one egg roll wrapper on a work surface with one corner pointing towards you.
    • Add about 1/4 to 1/3 cup of the filling to the center of the wrapper.
    • Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the left and right sides towards the center.
    • Roll the egg roll away from you to the top corner.
    • Brush the flour paste on the inside of the top corner to seal the egg roll.
  7. Fry the Egg Rolls: Carefully place the egg rolls in the hot oil. Fry for 5 to 8 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Drain and Serve: Remove the egg rolls from the oil and let them drain on a rack or paper towels. Garnish with sesame seeds if desired.
  9. Enjoy: Serve the egg rolls hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
