Amish Applesauce Cake

Moist, warmly spiced, and nostalgic — the perfect old-fashioned cake for cozy gatherings.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 ½ cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp cloves
  • ½ cup applesauce
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup oil or melted butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • ½ cup walnuts/pecans optional
  • ½ cup raisins optional

Equipment

  • mixing bowls
  • Whisk & spatula
  • 8×8-inch baking pan

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour pan.
  2. Whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, and spices.
  3. In another bowl, whisk applesauce, sugars, oil, eggs, and vanilla.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients.
  5. Fold in nuts and raisins.
  6. Pour into pan and bake 30–35 minutes.
  7. Cool before serving.

Notes

Tastes even better the next day.
Store at room temp (2–3 days), fridge (5 days), or freeze (3 months).
