Amish Farmhouse Feast A traditional family-style meal featuring slow-cooked beef roast, creamy mashed potatoes, green beans, soft rolls, and classic apple pie.

Ingredients
  

Main Dish (Beef Roast):
  • 3 –4 lbs beef chuck roast
  • 2 tbsp oil 1 onion, 4 garlic cloves, 3 carrots, 3 celery stalks
  • 2 cups beef broth 1 cup red wine (optional)
  • 2 tsp salt 1 tsp pepper, 1 tsp thyme, 2 bay leaves
Mashed Potatoes & Gravy:
  • 4 large potatoes
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup milk or cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Roast drippings 2 tbsp flour
Green Beans:
  • 1 lb green beans 3 tbsp butter, 2 garlic cloves
Dinner Rolls:
  • 4 cups flour 1 packet yeast, 1 cup milk, 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup melted butter 1 tsp salt, 1 egg
Apple Pie:
  • 6 cups tart apples 3/4 cup sugar, 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp nutmeg, 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Pie crusts top and bottom

Method
 

  1. Sear and slow cook the beef roast with vegetables and herbs.
  2. Boil and mash potatoes, prepare gravy with roast drippings.
  3. Blanch and sauté green beans with butter and garlic.
  4. Mix, knead, rise, and bake Amish-style dinner rolls.
  5. Prepare apple filling and bake pie in a double crust.

Notes

Substitute chicken or pork for beef if preferred.
Prep components ahead for easier assembly.
Store leftovers in airtight containers; reheat gently.
