Amish Hamburger Steak Bake

Old-fashioned hamburger steaks baked in creamy mushroom gravy—pure comfort food.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 lb ground beef
  • cups crushed saltine crackers
  • 2 cups whole milk divided
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Pinch cayenne optional
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • mixing bowl
  • 9×13-inch baking dish

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease baking dish.
  2. Mix beef, crackers, 1 cup milk, seasonings, salt, and pepper.
  3. Form into 8 patties.
  4. Dredge in flour and sear 2–3 minutes per side.
  5. Place in baking dish.
  6. Whisk soup with remaining milk and pour over patties.
  7. Cover and bake 30 minutes.
  8. Uncover and bake 10 more minutes.
  9. Rest 5 minutes and serve.

Notes

Browning the patties adds flavor—don’t skip it
Use cream of onion or celery soup if preferred
Let rest before serving so gravy thickens
