Method
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat until no longer pink. Drain excess grease if needed.
- Add the onion and cook for about 4 minutes until softened. Stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Season with Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper, then fold in the chopped bacon.
- Brush one side of each bread slice with melted butter and arrange the slices butter-side down in the prepared baking dish.
- Mix the mayonnaise and mustard together and spread a thin layer over the bread.
- Spoon the beef mixture evenly over the bread.
- Sprinkle the cheddar and mozzarella evenly over the top.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, until the cheese is melted, bubbling, and lightly browned.
- Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before slicing into squares.
Notes
Freshly shredded cheese melts more smoothly than pre-shredded cheese.
Drain excess grease from the beef to prevent a soggy casserole.
Serve with dill pickles, ketchup, mustard, or burger sauce.
Refrigerate leftovers for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
