A hearty Bacon Cheeseburger Grilled Cheese Casserole made with buttery toasted bread, seasoned ground beef, crispy bacon, cheddar, mozzarella, and a creamy burger-inspired spread. The ultimate comfort food for family dinners and game nights.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 6 slices bacon cooked and chopped
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 8 –10 slices white or sourdough bread
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons yellow or Dijon mustard

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • 9×13-inch baking dish
  • mixing bowl
  • pastry brush
  • spatula

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat until no longer pink. Drain excess grease if needed.
  3. Add the onion and cook for about 4 minutes until softened. Stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Season with Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper, then fold in the chopped bacon.
  4. Brush one side of each bread slice with melted butter and arrange the slices butter-side down in the prepared baking dish.
  5. Mix the mayonnaise and mustard together and spread a thin layer over the bread.
  6. Spoon the beef mixture evenly over the bread.
  7. Sprinkle the cheddar and mozzarella evenly over the top.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until the cheese is melted, bubbling, and lightly browned.
  9. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before slicing into squares.

Notes

Freshly shredded cheese melts more smoothly than pre-shredded cheese.
Drain excess grease from the beef to prevent a soggy casserole.
Serve with dill pickles, ketchup, mustard, or burger sauce.
Refrigerate leftovers for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
