Beef and Cheddar Puff Pastry Twists

Golden, flaky puff pastry spirals with a warm, savory seasoned beef and sharp cheddar filling. A four-ingredient, bakery-style appetizer or snack ready in 30 minutes — perfect for parties, game days, and packed lunches.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed
  • 1 cup cooked seasoned ground beef, cooled to room temperature
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 large egg beaten with a splash of water

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Floured work surface
  • sharp knife or pizza cutter
  • pastry brush
  • Ingredients

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, unfold and roll the thawed puff pastry into a neat rectangle.
  3. Spread the cooled, seasoned beef over one half of the pastry, leaving a clean border.
  4. Sprinkle the cheddar evenly over the beef.
  5. Fold the empty half over the filled half and press the edges to seal. Cut crosswise into 12 equal strips.
  6. Twist each strip several times into a spiral and arrange on the baking sheet with space between.
  7. Brush the tops with egg wash — not the cut sides.
  8. Bake 18–22 minutes until puffed, flaky, and deeply golden.
  9. Cool 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

The filling must be completely cooled — warm beef melts the butter layers and makes pastry soggy.
Keep pastry cold; refrigerate 10 minutes if it gets sticky. Never egg-wash cut edges.
Gluten-free: certified GF puff pastry. Dairy-free: dairy-free cheese and dairy-free milk or oil wash.
Freeze unbaked twists up to 2 months; bake from frozen with extra minutes.
Storage: refrigerate baked twists up to 3 days; reheat in oven or air fryer at 350°F.
Budget: about $0.40 per twist.
