Warm Blackberry Dumplings – The Ultimate Cozy Winter Dessert

Ingredients
  

-- For the Blackberries --
  • - 1 quart fresh or frozen blackberries rinsed
  • - 1 cup water
  • - 1 cup granulated sugar
  • - ½ tsp salt
  • - ½ tsp lemon extract
-- For the Dumplings --
  • - 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • - 2 tsp baking powder
  • - 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • - ¼ tsp salt
  • - ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • - ⅔ cup milk

  • - Large saucepan with lid
  • mixing bowls
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spoon or scoop

Method
 

  1. In a wide saucepan, combine blackberries, water, sugar, salt, and lemon extract. Bring to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
  2. Reduce to a gentle simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and nutmeg. Add milk and stir just until combined.
  4. Drop tablespoon-sized scoops of batter into the simmering fruit. Space evenly.
  5. Cover tightly and simmer on low for 15 minutes—do not lift the lid.
  6. Remove from heat. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Don’t peek while cooking—steam is key!
- Add lemon zest or cinnamon for extra flavor.
- Works with frozen or fresh berries.
