Ingredients

  • 1 package rectangular butter crackers
  • 8 –10 slices bacon
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper
  • Pinch of freshly ground black pepper

Equipment

  • Rimmed baking sheet, wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment or foil and set a wire rack on top.
  2. Arrange crackers on the rack in a single layer.
  3. Cut bacon into pieces that fit the length of the crackers; place one piece on each cracker.
  4. Sprinkle each with about 1 heaping teaspoon brown sugar and a pinch of cayenne and black pepper.
  5. Bake 15–20 minutes until the sugar is melted and glossy and the bacon is crisp.
  6. Cool completely on the rack so the candy coating hardens. Serve at room temperature.

Notes

Use a wire rack for best crisping. Cool completely before serving so the sugar sets. Best the day they are made. Highly addictive sweet-savory snack.
