Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ onion finely diced
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 can 10.5 oz cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese plus extra for topping
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 bag 20 oz frozen French fries

Equipment

  • Large skillet, 9x13-inch baking dish

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Brown ground beef with diced onion; drain grease. Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Stir in cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, and half the cheddar until creamy.
  4. Spread beef mixture in the baking dish. Top evenly with frozen French fries.
  5. Bake uncovered 25 minutes until fries begin to turn golden.
  6. Sprinkle remaining cheddar on top and bake 5–10 minutes more until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Rest a few minutes, then serve.

Notes

Use fries straight from the freezer. Drain beef well. Extra cheese on top is encouraged. Best eaten promptly for maximum fry crispness. Kid-approved and highly requestable.
