Ingredients

  • 1 prepared angel food cake or pound cake cut into cubes
  • 1 package 225 g / 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 container 225 g / 8 oz whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 can 595 g / about 21 oz cherry pie filling (or 3 cups fresh pitted cherries with syrup)
  • Optional: extra cherries shaved white chocolate, or powdered sugar for garnish

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl, trifle dish or glass bowl

Method

  1. Beat softened cream cheese with powdered sugar until smooth.
  2. Fold in whipped topping until light and fluffy.
  3. In a trifle dish, layer cake cubes, cream mixture, and cherry pie filling, repeating until the dish is filled and ending with cherries on top.
  4. Refrigerate at least 2 hours. Garnish with extra cherries, white chocolate, or powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Softened cream cheese is essential for a smooth filling. Chill time improves both flavor and texture. Angel food cake keeps it lighter; pound cake makes it richer. Best assembled a few hours or a day ahead.
