Ingredients

  • 3 cups salted pretzels crushed (about 6 oz)
  • 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for greasing)
  • cups thick caramel sauce room temperature
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Equipment

  • 9×13-inch glass baking dish

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13-inch glass dish.
  2. Crush pretzels into coarse crumbs. Mix with melted butter and press firmly into the dish.
  3. Bake crust 8–10 minutes until fragrant and set.
  4. Pour room-temperature caramel evenly over the hot crust; spread gently. Bake 10–12 minutes until caramel is bubbling and slightly thicker.
  5. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot caramel. Wait 3–5 minutes, then spread into an even layer.
  6. Cool until the dish is no longer hot, then refrigerate 1–2 hours until fully set.
  7. Let sit at room temperature 10–15 minutes before cutting into 16 squares.

Notes

Use thick caramel and coarse pretzel crumbs. Let chocolate soften before spreading. Chill fully, then rest briefly at room temperature before cutting so the chocolate does not shatter. Store in the refrigerator. Excellent for parties and gifting. Sweet-salty and addictive.
