Ingredients

  • Ingredients Muffins:
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • cups all-purpose flour
  • teaspoons baking powder
  • Topping:
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter melted

Equipment

  • Muffin tin, mixing bowls

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Coat a muffin tin with baking spray.
  2. Whisk sugar, melted butter, egg, cinnamon, nutmeg, and milk until smooth.
  3. Add flour and baking powder; whisk gently until just combined.
  4. Divide batter evenly among muffin cups.
  5. Bake 18–20 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes.
  6. Dip warm muffin tops in melted butter, then in cinnamon sugar until coated. Serve warm or at room temperatur

Notes

Do not overmix the batter. Coat while muffins are still slightly warm for best adherence. Nutmeg adds classic donut flavor. Excellent with coffee or milk. Best the day they are made. Store in an airtight container. Easy to double. Optional: roll entire muffin for heavier coating.
