- Cut puff pastry into rounds, prick centers, and bake until golden.
- Whisk milk, sugar, cornstarch, and salt; cook until thick.
- Temper egg yolks, return to pot, and cook until smooth.
- Stir in vanilla and butter; chill custard.
- Slice pastry, fill with custard, and dust with sugar.
