Crispy Amish Onion Fritters

These classic onion fritters are golden, crispy, and packed with sweet onion flavor—perfect as a snack, side, or comfort food treat.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 large sweet onions finely chopped
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • Oil for frying vegetable or canola

  • Slotted spoon
  • Paper towels
  • Plate or wire rack (for draining)

Method
 

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Stir in the milk until smooth.
  3. Fold in chopped onions.
  4. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Drop batter by spoonfuls into hot oil.
  6. Fry 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  7. Drain on paper towels and serve warm.

Notes

Refrigerator: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Reheat: Crisp up in an air fryer or oven at 375°F for 5–7 minutes. Avoid microwaving to keep the texture crispy.
