Crock Pot Smothered Pork Chops – A Comfort Food Classic That Practically Cooks Itself

Ingredients

  • 4 bone-in pork chops 1” thick
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 onions sliced
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • ½ cup heavy cream optional
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Equipment

  • ✅ Large skillet (for browning chops and sautéing onions)
  • ✅ Wooden spoon or spatula
  • ✅ Measuring cups & spoons
  • ✅ Sharp knife and cutting board
  • ✅ Mixing bowl (optional)
  • ✅ 6-quart slow cooker / Crock Pot
  • ✅ Ladle or slotted spoon (for serving)

Method

  1. Season pork chops with spices. Optional: Sear in a skillet, 2 minutes per side.
  2. In the same skillet, sauté onions in butter. Add flour, stir 1 min.
  3. Whisk in broth, Worcestershire, thyme. Simmer 2–3 mins.
  4. In crock pot, layer gravy → pork → more gravy.
  5. Cook on LOW 6–8 hrs or HIGH 3–4 hrs.
  6. Stir in cream before serving. Garnish with parsley.

Notes

🔄 No time to sear? Skip it—just pat the chops dry well before slow cooking.
🥩 For extra tenderness, use pork shoulder chops instead of loin.
🥄 Gravy too thin? Mix 1 tbsp cornstarch with 2 tbsp water and stir it in during the last 30 minutes.
