Crispy, golden hand pies with a cinnamon apple filling and sweet vanilla glaze — perfect for snacking or dessert!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/8 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 2 –3 apples chopped
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp water
  • Oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 –2 tbsp milk
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Make dough by blending flour, salt, baking powder, and shortening. Add milk.
  • Cook apples with sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla until soft. Thicken with cornstarch.
  • Roll dough, fill with apples, and seal edges.
  • Fry in oil until golden brown.
  • Glaze with powdered sugar mixture.

Notes

– Best served warm.
– Can be stored and reheated.
– Substitute apples with peaches, pears, or berries.
