Fried Apple Pies

Crispy, golden hand pies with a cinnamon apple filling and sweet vanilla glaze — perfect for snacking or dessert!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/8 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 2 –3 apples chopped
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp water
  • Oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 –2 tbsp milk
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Equipment

  • mixing bowls
  • Rolling Pin
  • Cast iron skillet
  • Slotted spoon or tongs
  • Pastry cutter (optional)

Method
 

  1. Make dough by blending flour, salt, baking powder, and shortening. Add milk.
  2. Cook apples with sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla until soft. Thicken with cornstarch.
  3. Roll dough, fill with apples, and seal edges.
  4. Fry in oil until golden brown.
  5. Glaze with powdered sugar mixture.

Notes

– Best served warm.
– Can be stored and reheated.
– Substitute apples with peaches, pears, or berries.
