- ook the elbow macaroni according to the package directions until al dente. Drain well and return it to the pot.
- Add the whole milk, powdered milk, cornstarch, dry ground mustard, and cubed Velveeta.
- Cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until the Velveeta melts completely. Do not allow the mixture to boil.
- Remove the pot from the heat and gradually stir in the shredded sharp cheddar until smooth.
- Taste and season with salt if needed.
- Let the mac and cheese rest for 3–5 minutes to thicken slightly before serving.
