Ingredients

  • 1 stick ½ cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3 heaping tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Dash of nutmeg
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl, 9-inch pie dish

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Cream softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time.
  4. Stir in buttermilk, flour, vanilla, salt, and nutmeg until smooth.
  5. Pour into unbaked pie crust.
  6. Bake 50–60 minutes until the center is just set with a slight jiggle and the top is golden.
  7. Cool completely before slicing.

Notes

A slight jiggle in the center is perfect — the pie firms as it cools. Real buttermilk gives the best flavor. Excellent made a day ahead.
