Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups chopped yellow onion
  • 2 cups chopped celery
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon fresh sage
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme
  • Salt and pepper
  • 8 cups bread cubes
  • 2 –3 cups chicken or turkey broth
  • 2 beaten eggs optional

Method
 

  1. Melt butter in a skillet.
  2. Cook celery and onions until soft and golden.
  3. Stir in herbs and seasoning.
  4. Toss with bread cubes.
  5. Freeze or continue with baking.
  6. Add broth until moist.
  7. Stir in eggs if desired.
  8. Bake at 350°F for 30–40 minutes.
  9. Rest 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Day-old bread produces the best texture.
Freeze stuffing base for up to 2 months.
