Overnight French Toast Bake

A caramel-y, custardy French toast casserole that’s prepped the night before for the easiest morning ever.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup melted butter 1 stick
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 loaf Texas toast or thick-sliced bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar for garnish
  • Maple syrup for serving

Equipment

  • 9×13-inch baking dish
  • mixing bowls
  • whisk
  • Plastic wrap or foil
  • spatula

Method
 

  1. Pour butter into 9x13 pan; sprinkle with brown sugar.
  2. Layer half the bread cubes over sugar mixture.
  3. Whisk eggs, milk, vanilla; pour half over bread.
  4. Add remaining bread, top with rest of custard.
  5. Cover, chill overnight.
  6. Bake at 350°F covered 30 min, then uncovered 15-20 min until golden.
  7. Cool slightly, dust with sugar, serve with maple syrup.

Notes

Try adding cinnamon, fruit, or almond extract for variations.
Leftovers reheat wonderfully!
