Retro Bakery-Style Cinnamon Kugel

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar divided
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted and cooled slightly
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk room temperature
  • Optional topping: 2 tablespoons coarse sugar

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch metal baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk flour, 6 tablespoons sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk melted butter, eggs, and milk until smooth.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  5. Spread batter evenly into prepared baking dish.
  6. Sprinkle remaining sugar (and coarse sugar if using) over the top.
  7. Bake for 40–45 minutes, until golden and center is just set.
  8. Cool 15 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.

Notes

Do not overbake—custard texture should remain tender
Metal pans brown best
Add ¼ cup sour cream for extra richness
Best served warm, not hot
