Southern Fried Salmon Patties

Crispy, golden salmon patties made the Southern way — with cornmeal, onion, and creamy mayo for the perfect texture and flavor. Ready in 20 minutes, this pantry-friendly recipe is pure comfort food.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 14.75 oz can pink or red salmon
  • ¼ cup onion finely chopped
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup cornmeal
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying
Optional Add-Ins:
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard or hot sauce
  • 2 tbsp parsley or dill
  • Pinch of paprika

Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • Fork (for flaking salmon)
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Large skillet (cast iron preferred)
  • - Spatula or tongs
  • - Paper towels or wire rack

Method
 

  1. Flake salmon and remove large bones or skin if desired.
  2. Mix with onion, flour, cornmeal, egg, mayo, salt, and pepper.
  3. Form into 4–6 patties and let rest 5–10 minutes.
  4. Heat oil to 350°F and fry 3–4 minutes per side until golden.
  5. Drain on paper towels and serve hot with lemon or tartar sauce.

Notes

Serve with collard greens and cornbread for the ultimate Southern meal.
