Ultimate Coffee Cake Recipe: Moist, Spiced, and Perfectly Nutty

Ingredients
  

  • * 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • * 1 tsp baking powder
  • * 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • * 1/2 tsp salt
  • * 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • * 1 cup granulated sugar
  • * 2 large eggs
  • * 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • * 1 cup sour cream
For the Topping:
  • * 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • * 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • * 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • * 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

Equipment

  • 9-inch round cake pan
  • Mixing bowls (medium and large)
  • Electric mixer or whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • spatula
  • Toothpick or cake tester

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
  5. Mix in sour cream until smooth.
  6. Gradually add dry ingredients, mixing gently until just combined.
  7. Pour batter into pan. Mix topping ingredients and sprinkle evenly over batter.
  8. Bake 35-40 minutes until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  9. Cool for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

* Use room temperature ingredients for best texture.
* Toast walnuts to enhance flavor.
* Don’t overmix batter to keep cake moist.
