Zesty Orange Scones

Fluffy, citrusy scones perfect for breakfast, brunch, or tea time.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 ¾ cups flour
  • ¼ cup sugar +1 tbsp optional topping
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp cold butter
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • ½ tsp vanilla optional
  • ½ cup powdered sugar for glaze
  • 1 –2 tbsp orange juice for glaze

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet.
  2. Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut butter into mixture until coarse crumbs form.
  4. Whisk milk, egg, zest, and vanilla. Add to dry ingredients.
  5. Mix gently until shaggy dough forms.
  6. Shape into 1-inch disc, cut into 8 wedges.
  7. Bake 12–15 minutes, until golden.
  8. Cool, then drizzle with glaze.

Notes

Keep butter cold for flakiness.
Add cranberries, nuts, or chocolate for variations.
Store airtight up to 2 days at room temp, or freeze baked scones for 2 months.
