Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding Recipe


  • 225g bread
  • 300ml water
  • 75g brown sugar, softened
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 50g currants
  • 50g raisins
  • 150ml milk
  • ¼ tsp mixed spice

Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding Recipe


Step 1: Preparing the Bread

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/Gas Mark 4.
  2. Place 225g of bread in a bowl and add cold water.
  3. Allow the bread to soak for 1 hour.
  4. Drain the bread and squeeze out any excess water using your hands.

Step 2: Mixing the Ingredients

  1. In a bowl, combine the soaked bread with brown sugar, beaten egg, currants, raisins, milk, and mixed spice.
  2. Mix well to ensure all ingredients are combined.

Step 3: Baking the Pudding

  1. Grease an 8" square baking tin and pour the mixture into it.
  2. Bake for 1 and 1/4 hours or until the pudding is firm to the touch and brown on top.

Step 4: Cooling and Serving

  1. Allow the bread pudding to cool for approximately 30 minutes in the tin.
  2. Once cooled, cut it into squares.
  3. Serve the bread pudding either warm or cold.
