Ingredients
  

  • ½ cup melted butter
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • cups sugar divided
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups blackberries fresh or frozen

Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking dish, mixing bowl, whisk, measuring cups and spoons

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Pour melted butter into a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together self-rising flour, 1 cup sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. Pour batter over the butter without stirring.
  4. Scatter blackberries evenly over the batter.
  5. Sprinkle remaining ½ cup sugar over the berries.
  6. Bake 45–50 minutes until the top is golden and the edges are bubbling.
  7. Rest 10–15 minutes before serving warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Do not stir the batter into the butter. Frozen berries may be used without thawing. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator up to 4 days.
