Crockpot Split Pea Soup

A warm, warm soup is what we crave from September through March and is something we turn to again and again.It's simple, hearty, and flavorful.This soup is easy to make and great for making pork with bone broth.If you prefer to prepare this vegetarian dish, just skip the pork bones and use the vegetable broth.
Ingredients :
  • one pound split peas (about 2 c)
  • one large onion diced
  • two medium carrots, peeled and chopped
  • two  stalks chopped celery
  • three cloves minced garlic
  • three sprigs of thyme
  • one tsp. ground ginger
  • a quarter  tsp. red pepper flakes
  • six c. Low sodium chicken broth
  • one pork bone
  •  kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
Directions :
In slow cooker, combine peas, onion, carrot, celery, garlic, thyme, ginger, and red pepper flakes. . Pour the broth over it and add the pork bone. Season with salt and pepper.Cook over high heat for four to five hours, or low heat for six to eight  hours, until the beans are completely tender.Remove the pork bones from the multicooker and chop the rest of the meat.Return the meat to the multicooker and serve.
